04.30.07 Interesting ideas for wind turbines to recapture energy from moving vehicles on highways. Interesting to me because this was (no kidding) my 11th grade Science Fair project. I haven't read the proposals, but these probably wouldn't be converting very much of the car's gasoline power into electricity; the energy generated by the internal combustion is spent mostly as force/motion and a lot is also lost to heat. Of that motion energy (say, 80%, just a guess), only a smaller-still percentage is actually represented by the air being moved by the car as it travels. More still would be lost to the inefficiency of the turbines and/or the design (wind from the cars in the center lanes wouldn't be captured at a very high ratio) so in the end this might only capture say, 10-15% of the energy lost in the combustion reaction. # 04.13.07 A very thorough write-up on The Alameda-Weehawken Burrito Tunnel; isn't it amazing what our society can accomplish when we set our minds to a task? Now, who ordered this pollo with black beans? # 04.12.07 You should really ignore that last post. It was just droll posturing. I haven't posted here in a while, since the deadly combination of "life" and Stereoscope have been consuming my time. I changed jobs (again? you might ask) two weeks ago, returning to my previous team at the shipyard, in a new role which I'm enjoying wholeheartedly. Do you ever have one of those moments when you didn't think something was wrong with what you were doing, until you started doing something else and realized how much more you were enjoying yourself? It's like that. Anyway, I really do want a Wii, so if anyone where I can find one, speak up! # I really want a Wii. If you get me one, I'll forgive you for forgetting my birthday. # « March 2007 | archive index | May 2007 » built with movabletype |
