06.30.01 off to another radiohead show tonight. that makes two - anyone up for a third? # number one strangest search referal of all time? fruit+having+sex # this is sad for poor David. if he'd post some pictures of himself once or twice, i'm sure lots of people would commend his "manly presence or obviously intimidating strength". although it sounds to me as if the height of the ass was not what was being noticed, just a save for someone who was caught off guard by dashing good looks and a nice ass, right David? (not that i'm looking :) # this could get some people into trouble. it's a great idea though; i think there's quite a need for a good image-searching utility. note to self: mature content filter is on by default. search, then click the top right link to disable # and what is this? ah, kids these days! they're so adorable. # i hate to say it, but A.I. is a real crap-fest. i saw a review this morning in the paper but declined to believe it's scathing words. how could such a promising movie go so bad, you ask? overkill. and underkill. at least that's my guess. there was no real opportunity to buy into the idea of the movie and the characters in the begining, and then all of a sudden the plot takes off in this huge, sprawling mess. it wants to be an epic film, but the tragic script just wont let it fly. its a real shame. # new radiohead stuff posted to sound* - all in the spirit of a new album and a new tour. for something new this month we have kinetic, a wandering, trippy, drum-laden b-side from amnesaic featuring some of my favorite lyrical clips. this month's old b-side is india rubber, a crowded, dark track from the Bends era. suggestions for the last month of double-radiohead download's are welcome - i'm considering a "radiohead: worst of" theme...(there are some bad tracks...) # 06.29.01 welcome! that's it, everything's here. welcome to the new home of prosaic* - be sure to update your bookmarks and links. the old site will have a redirect shortly, and some new cool things that couldn't be done with my old host will be rolled out in the near future. thanks for coming folks and everybody drive home safe. # ok, so the new site is up, but for some reason I can't publish the blog there. so, um, just talk amongst yourselves for a while... # time to move... # 06.28.01 just arrived back from the radiohead concert. it was (of course!) fantastic. seats were six rows from the stage - i swear i could have spit on Thom, who is much smaller in life than i imagined - he's little and cute! the concert itself was the best i've seen. the sound was awesome, truely amazing and the lights were spectacular. light cues were perfectly synced with the show itself and were very very well designed. each song had a real strong physcial/emotional connection, and the lighting was a huge part of that. Thom's voice was brilliant. on no more than two occasions was a song even a little off, out of tune or off key. jonny is amazing to watch work. he's all over the place, touching everything, playing every instrument on stage. the man massages sounds out of innanimate objects. there was some killer drum work as well throughout the show. the band gave three encore's (although the last one was just on song). there was a really nice mix of new and old stuff, most of it of course coming from Kid A and Amnesiac. interesting notes include a really awesome performance of the old b-side Permanant Daylight and a cover of Cann's The Theif, both of which i had heard before in some bootlegs - nothing could compare to hearing those two tracks live though. PD has some really really strong Sonic Youth influences that aren't as readily accessible in the original version. stand-out performances include Producer Nigel Godrich (ok computer, kid a, amnesiac) on the tamborine, Thom's audience participation moments (leaping off the stage and hugging some people from the audience as well as some kid who stage-jumped after the first encore). best tracks of the evening (imho) were in limbo, paranoid android and idioteque, although all of the amnesiac tracks were fantastic. this is the set list from tongiht:
national anthem
morning bell [kid a] lucky airbag in limbo packt like sardines you and whose army no surprises dollars and cents knives out permenant daylight karma police pyramid song paranoid android idioteque *some little diddy thrown in before.... everything in its right place encore 1 i might be wrong fake plastic trees the thief (can cover) how to dissapear encore 2 talk show host the bends encore 3 motion picture soundtrack # 06.27.01 some of you may think that i haven't been posting because i'm too lazy or otherwise occupied to bother. and you would be correct. we haven't been resting on our laurels however, because here at prosaic* we are getting ready for a move! www.prosaic.nu doesn't function yet, but it will, and in a matter of days as well. so get ready, update your bookmarks, and check back often. # 06.26.01 so it's painfully obvious that i haven't been posting a lot recently. my internet connection should be up within another day or two (thanks go to jessie and also to mark). many interesting things of note to post (later) including a redesign by danny. # 06.24.01 fma has news of a new track from radiohead came out from a recent concert. it's called reckoner (formerly feeling pulled apart by horses) and it has a kicking rythmn thing going on. vocals (from the live bootleg) are less than fantastic. give it a listen and make up your own mind. # 06.21.01 ok, so i've got a pc with two netcards connected to a dsl line through PPPoE and a mac with a wireless networking card and hub. i'm trying to get the pc to share the dsl with the mac, via the wireless hub. anyone? # sorry for the slow down on posts this week. new job, new living arrangement, new (not yet settled) internet connection. and what kind of job is this anyway? there's no time to post! # 06.19.01 about the new job: 1.) free employer shuttles from BART are cool 2.) day one: "i'd show you some more on how to do that, but i have to go have a vasectomy now" # according to mac os rumors, apple is "end-of-life"ing the cube. that means they're done with it and not planning to make more. :( (sigh) i guess i should wait a few years and get one to put alongside that NeXT i keep meaning to buy. # 06.18.01 hah hah hah! [commentary withheld] ;-) # 06.17.01 gee David, i sorta like the nudity and the work. # 06.15.01 how sad. we'll miss you eddie! # today was the first day of the internship. it's gonna be an interesting three months... (note that the attitude is still positive) # 06.14.01 for god knows what reason, Adobe is releasing PageMaker 7.0 - software as the work of the devil. pagemaker is crap software to begin with, and it was understood in the publishing industry that Adobe was going to throw it's weight behind InDesign and abandon pagemaker. who pays $500 for a poorly written legacy application? bah. # so i'm moving later on today. there will be a brief outage on this site until i get setup and settled in. that includes getting settled at my new job. so don't expect much of me before the middle of next week. that's all i'm saying. # 06.13.01 assuming there will be enough time this summer, i think i will take back up an old project - the complete radiohead archive. a daunting task for sure, the only chore left is to locate a few random b-sides or live unreleased tracks and start organizing / naming. obsessed? yes. bored? no. # ok, everyone go check out 8 legged dj. pretty cool stuff. i haven't had the chance to read too deep (see post below) but this looks like someone who'd make some good, healthy socio-political conversation. quality! # i hate moving. hate it. hate. i'm using the word hate here. but at least its for a good cause this time - and he knows who he is. ;) this whole event is made the more worthwhile however by a.) the knowlege that i have one more final left and b.) my roommate's selection of Music To Pack By (aretha franklin, jethro tull, rolling stones) # in preparation for the upcoming concert(s), I will be posting a new B-Side and an old B-Side in sound* - this week, amnesaic b-side "the amazing sounds of orgy" (arguably the best current b-side) and the fun old track, "killer cars" from the Just single. enjoy! # canadian music rag intern provokes inanimate chat-script. # 06.11.01 "we were standing in a garden / and i had a machine that made silence / it just sucked up the whole opinionated din / and there were no people on the payroll / and there were no monkey on our backs" -ani difranco # Lobster Man Tip #3: keep a bottle of aloe vera lotion in the fridge for a cool, soothing sunburn remedy. keep out of reach of children. # on a lighter note, i thought i should share with you the fantastic self-defacing humor of this, which also ran as a full page ad in the last issue of our student newspaper. # "Today, every living person who was hurt by the evil done in Oklahoma City can rest in the knowledge that there has been a reckoning" i'm not going to even begin to go into the death penalty debate, but i will say that no matter what your stance, the idea that the President of the United States would say something like this is utterly appalling to me. # from The Parking Lot is Full - a politically incorrect cartoon. [warning: this link contains references to homosexuality - this is the only notice you will receive. Darin, this means you.] # this too is a tragedy. typical WB fair... (again, via metafilter) # being a journalist can be dangerous work - you have to survive international strife, political coup's, and giant lizzards. (via metafilter) # 06.10.01 only in college moment #2: your roommate takes a bite of Zest soap for a dollar. # ok, so i spent some serious time trying to figure out the waste game last night, but to no avail. 100 (nerdy) people figured out the password ("victim") in the following manner: 1.) decode the barcode image. 2.) convert the resulting sequence into binary. 3.) translate the binary into six numbers. 4.) find the letters assigneed to those six numbers. 5.) V I C T I M geeks. # so when is eddie gonna post us a pic of this "brandon" boy? # more freaky radiohead mysteries: do you know the password? # 06.09.01 alright, this thread is for my own personal information. blogger as a scratchpad. # ok, i'm sure everyone's seen this article about "missed connections" at craigslist, but this is pure comedy. # 06.08.01 "There will be a secret Radiohead webcast starting on June 9 at 10:30 pm GMT. There are four different links to collect and each will have a number of different tracks in it." more info at fma, but you gotta let me know if you find the fourth... # if it's true, this is really sad news. feed going away? i don't even want to think about it. # a must read for Salinger fans. (via plastic, but i wont link back to them, so don't get upset) # 06.07.01 considering that i just presented them to my class today, i figure now might not be a bad time to remind everyone that you can view my video projects. # from the new radiohead website you can access an interesting maze of strange art/content, including the lyrics for amnesiac - in a sense. # does anyone know what is going on with sirius/firstworld/earthlink? i believe that earthlink is the new owner of this web server, but i don't know anything about the transition, and there's no news on any sites. email me if you know anything, please? # alright, so according to Stanley, artist for the band, the new radiohead.com will be out later this afternoon. phew. # Keith always seems to have the latest cute boy / porn news. i'm glad somebody's keep me up to date. # that's it! i'm officially losing my patience waiting for the new radiohead.com site! it was promised to debut on monday, but technical problems held up the launch. where is it now? # 06.06.01 ![]() (via adbusters) # feed has an interesting perspective on the Bush administration's last 6 months; they're calling Shrub Jr. an alarmist. # i want to make my contribution to the current energy conservation campaign. therefor i am posting the Streeter Family's Blackout Sun-Tea Recipe. this sweet, yummy beverage can be made with a minimum of effort and eletricity and is guaranteed to delight beverage drinkers, young and old: * fill one gallon pitcher/container with hot water (tap ok) * drop in five bags lipton "brisk" tea (generic brand ok) * place still-warm pitcher in direct sunlight * retrieve pitcher after approx. 2+ hours * stir in 1 cup sugar * place in fridge to cool * enjoy this yummy treat with friends and neighbors! # it may be a top-of-the-page headline article at wired.com but this article seems awfully poorly written, in my opinion. # the more developers do things like this, the sooner computers and the internet will stop being a triffle of the bourgeoisie. # "Ladies, if you want to torture straight men with your "No nookie without a cookie" dating strategies, fine. But we don't want you influencing our own time-tested strategies ("Free cookies!"). Our way everybody goes home happy. Your way people go home hungry. " (another super-fun quote from the article linked below) # "I'm from the old school. I believe in sex before dating. The reason is, nothing kills sexual attraction more than having dinner with a guy so dull that even the corn on the cob covers its ears. " (via Salon.com Sex) # 06.05.01 watch this flower bloom, live online. whee. (via metafilter) # Rockstar Games, makers of "Grand Theft Auto" and other classicly pointless games, is developing a game called "State of Emergency" which is "an urban riot game set in the near future, where the oppressive American Trade Organization (ATO) has declared a State of Emergency...It is up to you to smash up everything and everyone in order to destabilize the ATO. " sound familiar to anyone else? # apparently my former hang out and school radio is featured on Uplister.com - not that I could tell, since they don't have a Mac client available. # words on my lips as i awoke this morning (random!) : antecedent & unequivocal # apparently McDonalds has registered a large number of McDomains, such as McKids, McParents, McMyFavoritePlaceToEat and weird crap like that. i saw this originally on a message board at radiohead.com but the message has rolled off the server. can anyone confirm this? # 06.04.01 just downloaded some new drivers for my pc camera, so the cam image should be more clear now. # in other strange news, the UPS man just handed me a package from Capitol Records. inside the bubble wrap is a bunch of stickers for radiohead's amnesaic, a cd including the spinner interview with guitarist Ed O'Brien and the strange piece of painted wood you see below. go figure.
# "due to larger than expected call volumes, your wait time may exceed 10 minutes" "please hold for excellent customer service" (that's a great one) I've been on hold so long the muzac has started over. # beside's tomorrow's release, there are a few albums clammoring for my purchasing attention these days: *REM - Reveal *Weezer - (self titled green ablum) *Placebo - Black Market Music *Cowboy Junkies - Open *Lucinda Williams - Essence # 06.03.01 saw shrek this weekend - yes it is an animated movie, but there's good 'n plenty for adults too. really it's quite funny. i mean, would mike meyers do something that wasn't full of under the table references for adults? the most exciting part of the film however, was the fact that it was presented DLP - digital light projector. quite funny for me since one of my prof's had *just* lectured on the subject the day before. if you're not familiar with DLP, it's a digital alternative to traditional film projectors. the quality is really nice, showing a lot more textures than traditional film. the whole picture is very crisp and clear and the image is bright with none of those funny circle marks that dance all over a screen normally. of course DLP is only an option for movie's that were filmed with digital equipment or computer animated stuff (like shrek or the upcoming final fantasy) the other film was moulin rouge, another oddly kinetic film from director baz luhrmann. yes, this movie is very hyped, and yes it's a movie with singing and dancing competing directly with the big summer movies. go see it for that ballsy move alone. this movie is really over the top. it's very very well produced and edited. the aesthetic is crazy, messy and gaudy, sometimes campy and even near trashy. there's a sequence near the beginning that will blow your mind, if you can follow it without becoming motion sick. it's thrilling, funny, visual and textured. lurhmann spins you around with his camera and doesn't ever really stop. nothing settled down for a second - no shots linger and the ornate detail of the set, costumes and characters are impossible to take in. alas, this movie, as are so many, is perhaps 10 minutes too long. the ending tries to move you, to make a sudden, 180 degree turn from frill and thrill to emotional and sympathetic. and yet even then the pace doesn't slow. even the ending sequences are fast and furious and over ornamented. for me at least, the end doesn't work. the demand is too much, and the ending feels too textbook to elicit much emotional response. nevertheless, the whole film overall is quite interesting. it's worth the money just to see John Leguizamo as a midget. # 06.01.01 lots of yummy radiohead triffles! from planet telex we have a video of Packt Like Sardines in a Crushd Tin Box performed live (it's a killer live track!) and audio of Thom performing Pyramid Song solo on a piano. utterly beautiful. finally, there's a video stream up right now of a concert in Germany. it's multicast though so it's happening RIGHT NOW - who knows what'll be up later? point your real audio player to: http://www.aollive.de /ramfiles/aollive.ram and have fun! # sure, alright, so you didn't spend tons of money on tickets but ask yourself this: who's sitting in the sixth row? # it's stuff like this that makes it so easy to be obsessive about radiohead. (via greenplastic) # tragic, horrible, sad sad marketing ploy: microsoft's "clippy" - that annoying paperclip animation from MS Office has it's own webpage, featuring lots of lame content and some really funny flash videos (check out 1 and 3) with Gilbert Gottfried as the voice of the most annoying software "innovation" to come from microsoft, EVER! (tip 'o the hat to kirsten and dayv on that one) # "i couldn't be working any harder to resurrect riothero.com, really, it's going to be any day now." - mark olygwalizskinsecredimienderhogen (or something) # « May 2001 | archive index | July 2001 » built with movabletype |
